WSN Lady Eagles win final area game

It may have been their final area game of the season Tuesday at Monroe County, but the W.S. Neal Lady Eagle basketball saved their best for last as they picked up their first area win.
The Lady Eagles edged out Monroe County 42-39 Tuesday to get a three-point win and improve their record to 4-17 overall and finishes them with a 1-7 area record.
In other games Tuesday, the varsity Eagles of East Brewton lost 79-58 to finish them 0-8 overall in area play and dropped them to 3-21 overall.
In B-team action, the Eagles lost 43-23 to drop to 1-18 overall.
No stats from the B-team game were known as of press time.
All three teams will play their final regular season game of the season Friday at Flomaton. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
The Flomaton game will be the final game this season for the B-team. The Lady Eagle and varsity Eagles will play in their area tournaments next week.
Girls will begin play Monday while the boys will play Tuesday. Game venue and time were unknown as of press time.

WSN Lady Eagles 42, Monroe County 39
After blowing a seven-point lead in the third quarter and seeing Monroe County tie the game at 31-all, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles edged out the Tigers in the fourth by three points to get their first area win 42-39.
W.S. Neal jumped out to an early 11-3 lead over Monroe County in the first quarter and led 22-15 at the halftime break following a 12-11 advantage for Monroe in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Monroe County came out hot and outscored the Lady Eagles 16-9 to tie the game at 31 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, W.S. Neal would end the game on an 11-8 run to get the win by three points.
KeKe Floyd and Arianna Jones led the Lady Eagles with 12 points each while Mariah Davis had 11.

Monroe County 79, WSN varsity Eagles 58
The W.S. Neal varsity Eagle basketball team finished winless in area play Tuesday as they dropped a 21-point loss to Monroe County, 79-58.
Monroe County held a 17-16 lead over W.S. Neal after one quarter but increased their lead to 42-28 at the half after a 25-12 advantage in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, W.S. Neal was outscored 17-13 and fell 20-17 in the fourth to take the defeat.
Jalen Harrod led the Eagles with 14 points while Trevor Burns had 11 and Hudson Brown finished with 10.
