The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball team ended their two-game losing streak Monday at LBW as they came away with a 77-76 win in the final seconds. The win for the Warhawks improves JDCC to 12-8 overall and to 6-3 in conference play.
“Down by nine with 1:45 to play and four with 25 seconds to play, we got a steal from Larel Jackson and got a basket and converted a free throw after being fouled with 17 seconds for us to take the lead,” JDCC head coach Allen Gainer said. “But they pushed the ball up the floor and scored to retake the lead with seven seconds to go. After a clock problem, we had the ball just past half court with five seconds left. Larel then found Sherman Presswood streaking to the basket for the game winning shot with just three seconds left. LBW would hit the roof trying to inbound, leaving us to just inbound the ball to seal the win.”
JDCC trailed 40-28 after the first half but outscored the Saints 49-36 in the second to get the win by one.
Turmonte Ragland led the Warhawks with 27 points and Presswood followed with 14. Brandon Scott finished with 13 points and Jackson poured in 12 to give JDCC four players in double figures in the win.
Greg Crum added six points and D.J. Jackson chipped in five.
Larel Jackson led with eight rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Presswood, Ragland and Crum all had one block each to lead in the win.
The Warhawks shot 40 percent from the field (29-for-73) and were 4-for-20 from the 3-point area for 20 percent. JDCC shot 15-for-26 from the free throw line for 58 percent.
JDCC will be back in action Monday, Feb. 13, when they take on Chattahoochee Valley at home. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Brewton.
