TRM baseball starts year off 2-1

Leading 1-0 over Pensacola Catholic in the top of the seventh inning Saturday at JDCC, the T.R. Miller Tigers surrendered two runs in the inning to lose 2-1. The loss dropped the Tigers to 2-1 this season.
Both teams were scoreless through the top of the sixth inning, when the Tigers got on the board first in the bottom of the inning to lead 1-0.
Caleb McAnally had a sacrifice fly to score Conner Denton for the Tigers lone run of the game. Denton led the inning off with a single.
In the top of the seventh, the Crusaders of Pensacola led the inning off with a double before getting to third base on an pickoff play error by the Tigers to set up the tying run at third base with no outs. A hit batter led two runners at first and third with no outs and was followed by a stolen base to give Catholic runners at second and third with no outs.
Catholic would get a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1 and have a runner at second with one out.
Catholic would then attempt a sacrifice to get their runner to third but the Tigers committed another error to put runners on second and third.
The game-winner came later when Catholic stole home after the Tigers failed to get an out at third in a run down play.
Catholic then threw a perfect bottom of the seventh to earn the win by one.
Catholic had four hits in the win and one error while the Tigers were held to three hits and made three errors in the loss.
Tiger pitcher Kevin Davis took the loss on the mound going the complete game allowing two earned runs, three walks and struck out 12 and hit one batter.
At the plate for the Tigers, Denton was 2-for-3 with a double and Davis was 1-for-2. McAnally had the lone RBI.
T.R. Miller will play in the Escambia County Tournament beginning Thursday in East Brewton. The Tigers will open the tournament at 6:30 p.m. against Flomaton.

Friday night, the Tigers opened their season with a sweep of Escambia County of Atmore to start the year 2-0.
T.R. Miller won game won over the Blue Devils 24-0 and won game two 22-0.
In game one, T.R. Miller led 13-0 after four innings before getting 11 in the fifth inning to get the win. In game two, T.R. Miller scored 11 runs in the second to help get the win.
Denton and Ryan Hunt allowed no hits on the mound in game one while striking out nine. In game two, Kyle Davis and Darby Black pitched in the win.
T.R. Miller pounded out 14 hits in game one getting three from Kameron Winn. In game two, the Tigers had 13 hits including two each from Kevin Davis, Black, Dominique Jackson, Ricky Curry and Preston Smith.
