JDCC softball starts 2-0 in conference play

The Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball team began the conference part of their schedule Saturday at home with a sweep of Bishop State.
JDCC defeated Bishop 1-0 in game one and 3-2 in game two to start 2-0 in conference play.
Earlier in the week, JDCC was swept at Southern Union 4-3 and 5-1. The Lady Warhawks’ record is now 14-24 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
JDCC is scheduled to be back in action Tuesday in Monroeville against Alabama Southern.

Southern Union 4, JDCC 3
In their first game against Southern Union, JDCC lost 4-3.
JDCC trailed Southern Union 3-0 after five innings before rallying with three runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3.
Southern Union would get the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to edge out the Lady Warhawks.
Mallori Armstrong took the loss on the mound for JDCC. Armstrong went six innings and allowed 10 hits, four runs, three earned, walked one and struck out four.
At the plate, Amber Steadham was 2-for-3 with one RBI and a triple. Breana Still was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI and Carley Parker was 1-for-4 with a double. Crysta Paulson was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Southern Union 5, JDCC 1
In game two against Southern Union, JDCC fell to 12-24 overall with a 5-1 loss.
JDCC was held to only three hits in the loss with Still, Paige Odom and Parker all having one hit each.
Elissa Kelly took the loss on the mound going 2 1/3 innings and allowing four hits, three runs, none earned, walked and struck out one.
Jaime Sanders went 3 2/3 innings and allowed three hits, two runs, none earned, walked two and struck out one.

JDCC 1, Bishop State 0
The Lady Warhawks scored the lone run of the game in the third inning as they shutout Bishop 1-0 for their first conference win Saturday at home.
Armstrong allowed only one hit on the mound for JDCC as she went the complete game seven innings and walked four and struck out seven.
At the plate, Parker was 2-for-3 with the lone RBI.
Still was 2-for-3 and Steadham, Jennifer Fisher, Odom, Amber McMillan and Dymon Coachman all had hits in the win.

JDCC 3, Bishop State 2
In another close game between the two teams Saturday in Brewton, JDCC edged out Bishop 3-2 to sweep the Lady Wildcats.
JDCC led Bishop 2-1 after the first inning and added one run in the bottom of the sixth while Bishop’s final run came in the top of the seventh.
Sanders earned the win on the mound going seven innings and allowing five hits, two runs, one earned, walked two and struck out none.
Steadham was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Fisher was 1-for-3 with a triple in the win.
