The T.R. Miller Tiger baseball team pounded out 12 hits and scored 10 runs while holding W.S. Neal to six hits and five runs in a 10-5 win over the Eagles Tuesday in East Brewton.
The Tigers struck for three in the first inning and then added four in the second, one in the fifth and two in the seventh while holding the Eagles to two runs in the first and three in the second and scoreless in the final four innings.
“We swung that bats well again tonight and that was the difference,” T.R. Miller Tiger head coach Jim Hart said. “We swung the sticks tonight and put it in play and made an error or two and had to get through that inning with the three-run homerun. Conner (Denton) came in there and pretty much shut them down after that. It was good and it is always good to beat Neal. We both have the chance to go into the playoffs now and it was a good ball game and a good way to end it. We will see what happens Thursday and how that will go with Clarke County.”
T.R. Miller struck first with three runs in the first inning, but they came at a price for the Eagles.
With two outs in the inning, Caleb McAnally hit a fly ball to right center field. W.S. Neal’s Brian Settle came down with the ball but collided with center fielder Hunter Mullins and dropped the ball. As the ball rolled around in the outfield with the two players shaken up on the play, McAnally rounded the bases and scored with Collin Graves to go on top 2-0.
Kyle Davis would later get an RBI double in the inning to score Jacob Fillmore to put T.R. Miller on top 3-0.
In the bottom of the inning, the Eagles benefited from two walks and a two-RBI single from Reid Johnson to cut the lead to 3-2.
In the top of the second, the Tigers batted around in the inning and scored four runs on five hits including a double from Conner Denton and Ryan Hunt to take a 7-2 lead.
But in the bottom of the inning, the Eagles got right back in the game with a three-run homerun from Damion Williams to cut the lead to 7-5.
From there, W.S. Neal would be held off the scoreboard while the Tigers added late runs in the fifth and seventh innings to get the win by five.
Tyler Dehoff started the game for the Tigers and earned the win going one inning. Denton went the next four innings while Kevin Davis close the game out in the final two innings.
Dehoff allowed four hits, five runs, all earned, walked two and struck out and hit one.
Denton allowed no runs and struck out six while Davis struck out all batters he faced.
For W.S. Neal, Keith Bradley got the start and the loss going 1 1/3 innings. He allowed seven hits, seven runs, six earned, walked none and struck out two. Jeremy Myers went the final 5 2/3 innings and allowed five hits, three runs, two earned, walked one, hit two and struck out six.
At the plate for T.R. Miller, Graves had two singles and one RBI while Denton added a double and one RBI. Kevin Davis had a single and one RBI and Caleb McAnally added a single. Fillmore had two singles and Kyle Davis added a double and one RBI. Dominique Jackson had a single and Hunt had a double. Caleb Dickey had a 3-for-4 day at the plate with two singles and a double and two RBIs.
For W.S. Neal, Williams had a three-Run homerun and three RBIs and Mullins had a single. Johnson was 2-for-4 with a double and a single and two RBIs. Myers added a single while Keith Bradley added a single.
“Miller swung the bats well tonight. Keith (Bradley) had a rough outing early but Jeremy (Myers) came in and did a good job in the last five innings. We just need to get better as a team ourselves. It is nothing wrong with what we are doing, we just need to get better. We still have another week before the playoffs start and that is my goal…to get better.”
Tuesday was also senior night in East Brewton for the Eagles’ three seniors—Logan Williamson, Hunter Mullins and Reid Johnson.
“They have been with me a long time,” Campbell said. “They have gave everything they have to this baseball program. I want to thank them and their parents. They will be sorely missed. Hopefully, we will finish on a strong run for them here in the end.”
T.R. Miller is now 16-6 overall while W.S Neal is 17-9.

WSN JV 6, TRM 5, six innings
The W.S. Neal JV team rallied to beat T.R. Miller 6-5 Tuesday to improve to 8-9-1 while T.R. Miller fell to 4-4 in the final game of the season for both teams.
T.R. Miller led W.S. Neal 2-1 after one inning and 4-2 after the fourth inning. After the Tigers took a 5-2 lead heading into the final inning of play, W.S. Neal scored three in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 5-5 and force one inning of extra baseball.
T.R. Miller was held scoreless in the top of the sixth while W.S. Neal scored the winning run on a passed ball with two outs.
Caden Lodge, Jared Cooper and James Peach all pitched for T.R. Miller with Peach being the pitcher of record.
For W.S. Neal, Tyler Joyner, Justin Sessions, Colten Morris and Patrick Glass all pitched with Glass getting the win.
At the plate for T.R. Miller, Todd Mayo, Cooper, Lodge, Lowell Swain and Hunter Harp all had singles while Chris Jones had a double and Ryann Gray had a triple.
For W.S. Neal, Miles Powell had the lone hit of the game with a double in the fifth inning to score one run.
