WSN softball wins in extra innings

After seeing their seven-game winning streak end Friday at Jay, W.S. Neal got back on the winning side of things Monday in Monroeville as they earned a 13-9 area win over Monroe County in 10 innings.
W.S. Neal, now 15-10 overall and 3-3 in area play, trailed Monroe County 8-5 after five innings before rallying with four in the top of the sixth to take a 9-8 lead.
Monroe County then plated one in the bottom of the inning and neither team scored in the seventh inning to force the game into extra innings.
Following a scoreless eighth and ninth inning, W.S. Neal scored four in the top of the 10th and held Monroe County scoreless to get the win. Monroe County led W.S. Neal 3-1 after two innings before W.S. Neal used two runs in the third inning to tie the game up.
In the bottom of the fourth, Monroe County scored three runs to take a 6-3 before both teams scored two in the fifth.
Kaitlin Hadaway earned the win on the mound going all 10 innings, striking out 15, walked seven, hit four batters, allowed two hits, nine runs, and one earned.
At the plate, Paige Grantham was 1-for-3 with two walks, was hit and scored three runs. Autumn Hinote was 2-for-5, with two doubles, was hit, and scored three runs. Lauren Boatwright was 2-for-4 with a triple, two walks and scored three runs.
Kaeli Brown was 1-for-3, with two walks, was hit and scored two runs and Anna Nelson was 2-for-3 and got on base four times out of her six plate appearances. Hadaway scored two runs and Jade Danley was 2-for-3and got on base five times out of six plate appearances.
W.S. Neal was set to play at Hillcrest Tuesday and will play the Lady Jaguars again Thursday at home to end their regular season with Senior Night.
