TRM’s Kevin Davis named to North/South baseball team

T.R. Miller baseball player Kevin Davis has been selected of one of a total of 130 outstanding junior student-athletes from across the state to have been named to the softball, baseball and basketball North-South squads for the 16th annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week competition scheduled for July 9-13, according to an announcement by Alvin Briggs, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA).
“I plan on playing in the North-South game this summer,” Davis said. “It’s a great honor to be selected to play. It will be a great environment with the top players in the state.”
Davis, a 95-MPH pitcher for T.R. Miller, has helped guide the Tigers to a 17-7 record this spring and will begin the playoffs Friday in Opp. The Tigers have been ranked as high as No. 2 in the class 3A ASWA baseball polls. Davis is currently being recruited heavily with occasional visits from Auburn University at some baseball games this spring in Brewton.
“Recruiting is kind of crazy right now,” Davis said. “I’m not sure on what I’ll do yet. I’m just taking visits and trying to figure out the best fit for me. I plan on making a decision hopefully at some point over the summer.”
Sports Week, which also includes in-state all-star games in soccer, volleyball and football, will also feature the Summer Conference with clinics and special sessions for coaches, principals, athletic directors, cheerleader coaches and officials. The volleyball teams have been announced and football and soccer squads will be announced at a later date.
Also, an All-Sports Equipment Expo and other related activities are scheduled throughout the week. Two of the highlights will be the Sportsmanship Banquet, which honors all schools that have not had an ejection or fine during the 2011-12 school year, and the week-ending Championship Coaches Awards Banquet that will include the naming of the 2011-12 Making A Difference Coaches of the Year.
Coaching the North softball all-stars will be Jonathan Nix of Ragland and Dale Palmer of Sparkman. Kent Chambers of Bob Jones will serve as the administrative coach. South coaches are Robyn Johnson of Enterprise, Robert Rollan of Holtville and Susan Barnes of Elba, the administrative coach.
Coaches for the South baseball stars are Mike Harrell of Davidson, Randy Nolen of Dadeville, his son Seth of Headland, Lyman Woodfin of Marbury and Ken Whittle of Trinity, the administrative coach. North coaches include Jeff Bell of Bob Jones, Chad Hudson of White Plains, Doug Gann of Homewood, Matt Moore of American Christian and administrative coach Keith Lucky of St. James.
The North girls basketball all-star team will be coached by Bill Deegan of Covenant Christian and Tonya Hunter of Shades Valley. Tim Miller of Bob Jones will serve as administrative coach for the North girls and boys teams. South girls team coaches are Woodie Head of Faith Academy, Steve Holloway of Sidney Lanier and Nigel Card of St. James, who will serve as administrative coach for both South squads.
The South boys basketball stars will be coached by Kirk Norris of Georgiana and Richard Carter of Lanett while the North boys will be coached by 2012 Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame inductee Danny Petty of Bob Jones and Reginald Huff of Gadsden City.
The AHSADCA operates under the auspices of the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Membership includes coaches of all AHSAA sports as well as administrators of member schools.
