Babe Ruth season begins Tuesday in rainy conditions

The 2012 Brewton Babe Ruth season began Tuesday in Brewton and East Brewton in some rainy conditions and saw a pair of 9-8 wins for the Astros and the Padres.
The Astros edged out the Braves 9-8 in five innings in Brewton while the Padres edged out the Phillies 9-8 in East Brewton.
Like every game this season, a doubleheader will be played, but Tuesday’s second games were cancelled due to weather conditions.
Game information and stats from the Phillies and Padres’ game one in East Brewton Tuesday night was not known as of press time.
Games are scheduled to continue Thursday in Brewton and East Brewton at 5:30 p.m. with the Astros taking on the Padres in East Brewton at Johnson Park while the Braves and Phillies will tangle in Brewton at T.R. Miller.
Tuesday’s game twos that were rained out will be made up Friday. The Astros and Braves will play in Brewton at 5 p.m. followed by the Padres and Phillies at 6 p.m. in East Brewton.
After games Tuesday, the Braves and Phillies are 0-1 while the Astros and the Padres are 1-0.

Astros 9, Braves 8
In a back-and-forth game in sloppy conditions Tuesday in Brewton, the Astros came away with a 9-8 win over the Braves in a five-inning game that was called due to weather conditions in the area.
The Braves struck early in the game against the Astros as they led 2-0 after one inning before the Astros scored two of their own in the second inning to tie the game.
In the third inning, the Braves took a 4-2 lead before the Astros rallied with five of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-4 lead into the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth, the Astros would get one run to extend their lead to 8-4, but saw the Braves get four runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 8-all.
In the bottom of the inning, Dalton Shell led the inning off with a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball.
Derrick Barton would follow with a fielder’s choice to the pitcher, but Shell would score on a Braves error during the play to get the win by one.
For the Braves, Miles Powell started the game on the mound and went 2 1/3 innings and allowed one hit, seven runs, walked seven, struck out and hit two batters.
Hunter Harp relieved Powell and went 1 2/3 innings and allowed one hit, two runs, walked four and struck out none.
For the Astros on the mound, Tyler Joyner went four innings and allowed four hits, four runs, walked three, hit one and struck out four.
Shell relieved Joyner in the fifth and recorded no outs while allowing two hits, four runs and hit two batters.
Taylor Elliott relieved Shell and went one inning to get the win while allowing three hits, walked two and struck out one.
At the plate for the Braves, Malcolm Hawthorne had two singles while Keaton Parker, Powell, Harp and Alex O’Keane all had singles.
Todd Mayo had a triple and a single while River Johnson had a double. Harp and Mayo had one RBI each.
For the Astros at the plate, Joyner and Tim McDonald had a single each with McDonald having two RBIs.
Shell, Barton and Dakota Graves had one RBI each.
