A Brewton man was arrested Monday and charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop on Douglas Avenue.
David Michael Mathieu, 24, of 109 Terry Drive, was stopped by Officer Heath Madison for alleged reckless driving, police said.
“Due to the driver’s suspicious behavior during the traffic stop, the officer further investigated by performing a search of the vehicle,” police investigator Brock Holt said. “While searching, officers located several items of drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. They also located a substance identified as heroin inside the vehicle with the paraphernalia.”
Mathieu was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He was released on $5,000 bond Tuesday.
