The B.L.A.S.T. (Brewton Local Area Swim Team) Tigershark all-star team recently traveled to Knoxville to compete in the Southeastern swimming Meet of Champions.
Cole Jernigan, Auburn Jernigan, Colby Morris and Mac Baxter all logged record best times in their events according to head coach Angel Boyd.
“Cole Jernigan, age 10, had an amazing meet, placing in the top-16 overall and medaling,” Boyd said. “Cole had personal best swims, dropping over 22 seconds in his 400-freestyle and picking up several AA times in his 50 and 100-backstroke, 200-freestyle and 50-freestyle events.”
Jernigan is the son of Lee and Felicia Jernigan.
Mac Baxter, age 9, also had a great meet, Boyd said.
“Mac achieved several personal best times,” Boyd said. “This was his first time all-star event and he swam in seven individual events.”
Baxter is the son of Chris and Angel Baxter.
Boyd also said that Auburn Jernigan, age 12, swam in the meet and record personal best times.
“Auburn achieved A-time standards,” Boyd said. “This was also her first time as an all-star and she earned this amidst stiff competition.”
Jernigan is the daughter of Scott and Tracy Jernigan.
Colby Morris, age 11 and the son of Brandee Chase Morris and David Morris, also swam and recorded personal best times in the 50-Back, and 50-Free events.
“This was Colby’s third time as an all-Star,” Boyd said. “The kids really swam their hearts out in Knoxville. I am so proud of their efforts and enjoyed every minute of the meet. Once again, we thank all of our supporters, who graciously helped us on our road to the championship. Our supporters were Bonehead Boots, Wal-Mart, Herrington’s, Hugh and Gayle Fountain, Audrey Boyd, The Rider Family, Kay Herrington, and all those who graciously donated to our cause.”
The Tigersharks will be in action again this Friday and Saturday in Gulf Shores, as they will compete in the Summer League Championships.
Cole Jernigan, Morris, Nolan Atkinson and Baxter will be defending their championship titles, as well as Elizabeth Glass, Auburn Jernigan, Addison Jernigan, Jocelyn Carpenter, Emmie Heath, Addison Heath, Joseph Carpenter, Callie Kent, Caleb Kent, Sara Scott and Kayleigh Kulicka who will all be swimming for medals in the championships.
The Tigersharks are coached by Boyd and Brandee Morris.
