The T.R. Miller Lady Tiger volleyball rallied Thursday night at home to down Monroe County 3-2 and improve to 2-1 this season.
T.R. Miller lost set one 25-20 but took a 2-1 lead after winning set two 25-22 and set three 25-15. In the fourth set, T.R. Miller looked like they would claim the win, but Monroe County rallied to win 25-20 to force a fifth set tiebreaker.
In the fifth and final set, T.R. Miller trailed 11-5 late and 13-11 late before rallying to win 15-13.
In their two wins this season, T.R. Miller has went the full five sets.
“I was proud of them for pulling out the win,” Lady Tiger head coach Greg White said. “We were really bad the first game and we just didn’t do a lot of things right. Serve receive is still an issue for us and our serving is still a major issue for us. After the first game we kind of got a little better and got better with our serving. We were very inconsistent the whole night but we did enough to get the win and some times that is just what you have to do. You have to do enough to get the win and I think we did that tonight. We had a lot of character to hang in there and get our serves in when we had to get them in. We still have a ways to go. I like this team and I like what we have. We just have to get the right mix and that is my job as a coach to figure that mix out. I think we will get there.”
In JV action Thursday, T.R. Miller lost 2-1 to fall to 2-1 overall this season. The Lady Tigers won set one 25-20 but lost set two 25-15 and the deciding third set 15-7.
T.R. Miller will host Cottage Hill Monday. The game is set for JV at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 5:30 p.m. The varsity contest will be an area contest for T.R. Miller.
