In a home tri-match with Flomaton and Jay Tuesday, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagle volleyball team was swept by the Lady Canes and Lady Royals.
W.S. Neal lost to Flomaton 2-1 and to Jay 2-0 to fall to 4-7 overall.
Against Flomaton, W.S. Neal lost 25-17 in the first set but won the second set 25-16. In the third set tie-breaker, W.S. Neal lost 15-11.
In the game against Jay, W.S. Neal lost 25-11 and 25-21.
“Against Flomaton, we only played one set out of three,” W.S. Neal head coach Jeff Haney said. “We won the set we played. This team is Jekyll and Hyde. I have not really figured out what pulls their trigger. When they decide to show up and play, they are as good as anyone around. When they don’t, they are bad as the worst around. There is no other way to put it. It is just the plain truth. We play (T.R.) Miller Thursday and hope the good team shows up.”
Haney said he didn’t think the layoff between games affected his team any in their second game against Jay.
“They didn’t hardly sweat the first one and I was not really worried about them being tired or anything,” Haney said. “We played better against Jay I thought. We just made too many mistakes. We are capable of so much more and we have shown that. They just have to figure out what is going to make them play their A-game all the time.”
W.S. Neal was set to play at T.R. Miller Thursday in Brewton. Game time is set for 4 p.m. with the middle school teams playing followed by the JV at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6 p.m.
W.S. Neal will be back in action at home on Thursday, Oct. 2, against Escambia County. Game time is set for 4 p.m. and is a varsity only game.
