Good morning Brewton area sports fans. I hope you are doing well on this beautiful Thursday morning.
Can you believe we are already at week five of the high school football season? My how the time has flown by. We are halfway done with the regular season.
After four games this year, W.S. Neal is currently 3-1 overall and 2-1 in region play while T.R. Miller is 4-0 and 3-0 in regular season.
The other day, I had a little extra time on my hands and I got to play around with some numbers.
For the W.S. Neal Eagles this season, they have outscored their opponents 183-41 for a difference of +141. T.R. Miller has outscored their opponents 161-62 for a difference of +99.
In the first quarter this season, W.S. Neal has outscored their opponents 20-13, in the second quarter 46-9, in the third 66-14 and in the fourth quarter 51-6. The biggest quarter of difference for the Eagles is the third quarter with a difference of +52. W.S. Neal had a 7-point difference in the first, 37-point difference in the second and a 45-point difference in the fourth.
For the Tigers of T.R. Miller, T.R. Miller has been just the opposite. They have been getting off to fast starts and slowing down near the end, while W.S. Neal takes off slow and gets better near the end.
In the first quarter, T.R. Miller has outscored opponents 72-7, in the second quarter 34-7, in the third quarter 28-21 and in the fourth quarter it is 27-27.
The biggest difference in points for T.R. Miller comes in the first with a 65-point difference followed by a 27-point difference in the second, a 7-point difference in the third and no difference in the fourth.
So far this season, W.S. Neal’s opponents have a record of 4-11 while T.R. Miller’s opponents are 6-10.
For W.S. Neal, Holtville is 0-4, Straughn is 3-1, Cottage Hill is 0-3 and Southside-Selma is 1-3.
For T.R. Miller, Atmore is 1-3, Opp is 2-2, Excel is 1-3 and Bayside is 2-2.
If the playoffs were to be seeded right now for class 3A region 1, T.R. Miller and Straughn would be the top two teams with a 3-0 region record while W.S. Neal and Bayside would be the other two teams to make the playoffs as they both have a 2-1 record.
Here’s to wishing both our football teams and all our area teams the best of luck for the remainder of the season.
I hope everyone has a great Thursday and a great rest of their week and a great weekend. Until we meet here again or out in the world of sports, God bless.
