As the No. 3 seed in the area tournament facing off against the No. 2 seed Cottage Hill, the W.S. Neal Lady Eagle volleyball team lost 3-0 to end their season in the area tournament Thursday at Bayside.
W.S. Neal lost set one 25-16, set two 25-9 and set three 25-22 to end their season with a 7-13 record.
Jodi Busby had five service points on the day with one ace and three kills. Stephanie Lambert had four kills and Jasmine Crook had three kills.
“We played a very tough team in Cottage Hill and I thought that our girls handled it very well,” Lady Eagle head coach Jeff Haney said. “We played pretty well and I’m glad to see them playing well at the end. They did a great job hustling and competing to the best of their abilities. That is all that I could ask from them.”
Haney said this season did not go as he hoped it would.
“I had high hopes for this squad, but things just didn’t come together as I hoped,” he said. “I have to take responsibility for a lot of this. We had some talented players, but we just didn’t play to our ability in some of the games. I will really miss our seniors. Stephanie Lambert has been our primary offensive weapon for the last couple of years. Kaitlin Hadaway has played several different positions and has been a very versatile player for us. Gracee Dixon has been our setter for two seasons and will be hard to replace. On top of their athletic abilities, they are also great people. It won’t be the same without them.”
