Volunteers raise the walls on house 19 for Habitat.

The sounds of hammers and laughter were in abundance Saturday as Habitat’s latest project got well under way.Volunteers busily erected the walls of the home being built for the Stewart family on Dacus Street — the 19th home building project of the Habitat for Humanity of Escambia County organization.
With foundation and base work already in place, the walls were raised into place Saturday as volunteers with the Prophecy Motorcycle Club and New Beginnings hammered in the first nails on the home.
Volunteers will continue to work on the home until it is completed — hopefully in November, organizers said.
Those interested in volunteering may contact the Habitat office to register and to schedule work at the site. Walk-up volunteers are also welcome when work is available. The work schedule for the coming weekend will be Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
