A Brewton man has been arrested on a charge of murder following an investigation into the death of Marlon J. Spears, sources said.
Michael Lane Cross, 20, of Brewton was taken to the Escambia County Detention Center where he was booked on one count of murder and one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Spears was pronounced dead after being found inside his vehicle on U.S 31 North near the intersection of Mason Mill Pond Road just before midnight Monday. It was first believed the victim died as a result of an automobile crash, however, preliminary investigation at the scene showed he had suffered a gunshot wound. Additional evidence found in the vehicle indicated a shot had been fired into the vehicle.
Cross is being held awaiting a bond hearing. The investigation in the case is continuing.
