WSN basketball teams start year with losses to Pleasant Home

After having their season pushed back by five games, the W.S. Neal basketball teams finally took to the court Thursday night at home in their 2012 season opener against Pleasant Home and all three teams took losses.
The W.S. Neal B-team started the year 0-1 with a 22-21 loss to the visiting Eagles from Pleasant Home. No other stats or information from this game was known as of press time.
In the girl’s game, the Lady Eagles also started their season 0-1 with an 18-point loss to Pleasant Home, 40-22.
In the varsity boy’s game, W.S. Neal lost by four points, 34-30.
All three teams were set to be back in action Friday when they traveled across Murder Creek to take on rival T.R. Miller.
W.S. Neal will travel to Geneva Tuesday for a 5 p.m. tip before the Lady Eagles and the varsity Eagles play in the county tournament Friday and Saturday in Atmore.
Following the county tournament, the teams will be off until Friday, Jan. 4 when they host Flomaton for at 4:30 p.m. tip. The home game will be the first of four straight home games for the Eagles. The Eagles will host T.R. Miller, Cottage Hill and Bayside Academy in that home stand with those three games being the start of area play for W.S. Neal.

Pleasant Home 40, WSN Lady Eagles 22
The W.S. Neal Lady Eagles had an unpleasant experience at home Thursday night in their home opener against Pleasant Home as they dropped a 40-22 loss to start the year.
Pleasant Home led W.S. Neal 7-3 after one quarter and 21-10 at the half following a 14-7 advantage in the second quarter. In the third quarter, Pleasant Home outscored W.S. Neal 12-10 to increase their lead by two points heading into the fourth quarter, 33-20. In the fourth, Pleasant Home ended the game on a 7-2 run to get the win by 18 points.
KeKe Floyd led the Lady Eagles with 16 points in the loss. Floyd was 4-for-9 from the free throw line in the loss.

Pleasant Home 34, WSN varsity Eagles 30
Leading 17-14 heading into the fourth quarter, the W.S. Neal varsity Eagles were outscored 20-13 in the fourth quarter to start their year with a 34-30 loss.
W.S. Neal jumped on Pleasant Home early as they took an 8-2 lead after one quarter of play. Both teams scored four points each in the second quarter as the Eagles of East Brewton took a 12-6 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Pleasant Home outscored W.S. Neal 8-5 to cut into the lead by three points, 17-14, heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, W.S. Neal was outscored by seven to take the loss by four.
Tyshawn Davis led W.S. Neal with 14 points while Trevor Burns added seven points. Josiah Nettles led with five rebounds and five blocks. Burns had one assist and one steal in the loss.
