McMillan plans third holiday meal

For the third year, Lisa Thomas McMillan will be spending her holiday cooking for hundreds — hundreds of area residents looking for food, fellowship and joy on Christmas day.
McMillan said her love of cooking and love of her fellow man got her interested in doing what she loves best helping those in need.
“It doesn’t have to be that they are in need financially,” McMillan said. “If someone is in need of some fellowship or just someone to talk with, I thought this would be a good opportunity to minister to those in need.”
McMillan, along with her husband, Freddie, has already begun planning of the Christmas day meal — planning everything from salads and drinks right down to desserts.
“Freddie will be doing some grilling for the meal,” McMillan said. “We will be serving some traditional foods, but we will have plenty of variety in what we serve.”
Serving will begin at 11 a.m. at The Hourglass in downtown Brewton and will continue until all the food is gone, McMillan said.
“We have served over 150 people before and we’re planning for at least that many this time,” McMillan said. “We are actually planning for about 200 people to join us for Christmas lunch.”
McMillan said last year the day was filled with individuals dining alone for the holidays as well as several families who came as a group to enjoy the day.
“We had one family of about 18 people who came in for lunch after church,” McMillan said. “It’s always good to see families celebrating together and I’m glad I had a part in that.”
Preparing food for 200 people is a large job — one that has turned up a few volunteers who are ready to help.
“We already have some people helping with the preparation and planning,” McMillan said. “But, we also need some volunteers who’d be willing to help serve on Christmas day.”
