Brewton and East Brewton set opening day for Saturday

Both the East Brewton and Brewton Cal Ripken baseball and softball leagues will have their opening days Saturday, April 6.

East Brewton:
The East Brewton Cal Ripken League will have their 15th annual jamboree Saturday, April 6 at R.T. Johnson Park on Williamson Street in East Brewton.
East Brewton League president Joey Shell said opening day festivities would start around 8:45 a.m. Saturday with the first pitch being thrown by Danny Parker. Parker’s all-star team won the district tournament last year and came in second at the state tournament.
T-ball, 7- and 8-year-old, softball, 9- and 10-year-old baseball teams, and 11- and 12-year-old baseball teams will take part in the Jamboree with a total of 15 teams playing this spring.
In the T-ball division, four teams will play including the River Bandits, River Dogs, SandGnats and Thunder.
In the 7-and 8-year-old division, three teams will play including the Iron Birds, Storm and River Cats. Three teams will play in the softball league including the Athletics, Dodgers and Phillies. In the Jamboree Saturday, Flomaton will also play in this division.
In the 9-and 10 division, teams include the Braves, Rays and Astros and in the 11-and 12 division, teams include the Diamondbacks and the Rangers.
Just for Saturday, admission will be charged. Adults will be charged $5 while students in Kindergarten through 12th grade will be charged $3. Pre-school and under will be free. Wristbands will be purchased at the gate and must be worn to be readmitted throughout the day.
No smoking or tobacco products will be allowed in the park or where pictures will be taken. Also, no pets, skateboards or bikes along with no outside food or coolers will be allowed.
The schedule for Saturday on field one will be the Diamondbacks and Rangers at 9 a.m., Braves and Rays at 10:45 a.m., Rays and Astros at 12:45 p.m., and Astros and Braves at 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. on field one.
On field two, the Athletics and Dodgers will play at 9:15 a.m. and the Phillies will play Flomaton at 10:45 a.m. Following a 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. lunch break, the Athletics and Dodgers will play at 12:45 p.m. followed by the Rangers and Diamondbacks game at 2:15 p.m.
On the Babe Ruth field, the Storm and Iron Birds will play at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Rivers Bandits and River Dogs at 10:45 a.m., Iron Birds and River Cats at 11:30 a.m., SandGnats and Thunder at 12:45 p.m., River Cats and Storm at 1:30 p.m., Thunder and River Bandits at 2:45 p.m. and the River Dogs and SandGnats at 3:30 p.m.
Pictures will also be taken starting at 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in 15-minute intervals.
Starting at 8 a.m. will be the Diamondbacks followed by the Rangers, Athletics, Dodgers, Storm at 9 a.m., Iron Pigs, Braves, Rays, Phillies at 10 a.m., River Bandits, River Dogs, River Cats, Astros at 11 a.m., SandGnats, and Thunder at 11:30 a.m.

Brewton:
Brewton will have their opening day ceremonies Saturday at the Brewton Area YMCA Sports Park.
The 10 and 12U girls softball teams will begin at 9 a.m. while the 10 and 12U boys baseball teams will have their opening games at 1 p.m.
For the softball opening ceremonies, city councilman Fred Barton will throw out the first pitch between 9 and 9:30 a.m. and the state champion softball team will also be honored during this time.
For baseball opening ceremonies, T.R. Miller pitcher Kevin Davis—if T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal’s baseball series Thursday and Friday do not get rained out and games have to be pushed until Saturday— will throw out the pitch between 1 and 1:30 p.m.
