An East Brewton man is facing a pair of charges after being accused of rape in a case from more than a year ago.
Adam Harrelson, 20, of Weaver Road was arrested following a grand jury indictment charging him with first-degree rape and second-degree sodomy, according East Brewton Police Chief Kenny Brazile.
“This case started over a year ago when we received a call from emergency room personnel at D.W. McMillan Hospital,” Brazile said. “The parents of a minor child had taken the victim to the emergency room for treatment of a suspected rape.”
Brazile said a staff member from the Escambia County Department of Human Resources was also called to the hospital to investigate the allegations of rape.
“During our investigation, the parents of the victim identified Harrelson as the main suspect in the case,” Brazile said. “Reports returned from a forensic science investigation were presented to the grand jury for consideration.”
A recent session of the Escambia grand jury resulted in the indictment of Harrelson on the original charges.
Harrelson was taken into custody in East Brewton and was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center on the charges.
Harrelson was released on $20,000 bond shortly after his arrest. No date for a trial in the case has been set.
