Three-time Olympian Gabor Mate, Auburn University Assistant Athletic Director Joe Whitt and Aubie will be the featured guests during the Escambia Auburn Club annual meeting on Thursday, June 13 in Atmore.
The event to be held at 6 p.m. at the Club will also feature a silent auction and dinner catered by South Alabama Vending, said Escambia Auburn Club Board Member Meg Jones.
This will mark the first meeting since the group reorganized last year, Jones said.
Mate, a Hungarian discus thrower and Auburn alumnus, competed in the Olympic games in Sydney, Athens and Beijing.
“He just started working for United Bank,” Jones said. “I have not met him yet, but I’m excited he will be able to come.”
Jones said attendees should bring their cameras as well for photo opportunities with Aubie. The event is open to alumni, friends and family, she said.
“It’s not just for alumni,” Jones said. “We would love who can come to come.”
Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for children with proceeds going to help the organization with projects, like the Alabama/Auburn food drive.
Tickets are available at United Bank and Escambia Bank in Flomaton, United Bank and First National Bank and Trust in Atmore as well as Weaver’s Apparel in Brewton. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 251-368-5406, 251-368-3788 or 251-867-2957.
