D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital recently awarded scholarships to 16 graduating seniors from T. R. Miller High School, W.S. Neal High School and Flomaton High School.
“Awarding college scholarships to area students is always one of the highlights of the year for us,” DWM Administrator Chris Griffin said. “Through the scholarship process we are able to reward the effort of the students, as well as, provide assistance to those destined for medical fields of study.”
With an exceptional field of scholarship applicants this year, Griffin said the hospital decided to award a $500 scholarship to each applicant for a total of $8,000. In years’ past, the hospital has awarded around $4,000 annually.
Scholarship winners from T.R. Miller High School were Taylor Evans, Lauren Cook, Alec Robinson and William Whittle. Recipients from W.S. Neal High School were Ashley Agee, Noah Cunningham, Courtney Emmons and Arianna Jones. Flomaton High School students awarded scholarships were Stephanie Bagwell, Haley Hadley, Khayla Head, Shelby McCrory, Jamie Rawlinson, Ciara Spates and Brooke Waldrop.
Scholarship recipients have indicated their chosen fields of study range from physical therapy to nursing to pre-med. Some students plan to attend Jefferson Davis Community College while others will attend the University of South Alabama, Auburn University, University of Alabama and UAB.
