EB 8U Cal Ripken all-stars to play at state tourney in Opp Saturday

East Brewton’s 8U Cal Ripken all-star baseball team will begin their state tournament games Saturday in Opp and will be joined by 17 other teams from across the state.
Joining East Brewton in the state tournament will be Andalusia, Alex City, Matthews Park, Monrovia, Westside, Butler, Talladega, Opp, Attalla, Childersburg, Demopolis, Lineville, Florence, Atmore, Sylacauga and Coosa.
The tournament will start out in pool play. Teams will compete for a top seed in each pool. The top two seeds from each pool advance to the single elimination tournament round Monday afternoon and Tuesday. The championship game is slated for Tuesday.
Games will be played on the lower fields at the Opp sports complex, which is located adjacent to Opp High School.
Opening ceremonies start at 9 a.m. Saturday on field No. 1. Pool play for the tournament starts right afterward.
In pool play, Andalusia, Alex City, Matthews Park and Monrovia will be in the north pool while Westside, Butler, East Brewton and Talladega will be in the south pool.
In the east pool will be Opp, Attalla, Childersburg, Demopolis and Lineville. In the west pool will be Florence, Atmore, Sylacauga and Coosa.
East Brewton will begin their state tournament games Saturday at 4 p.m. against Talladega. On Sunday, East Brewton will take on Butler at noon and Westside at 4 p.m. All games for East Brewton in pool play will be on field one.
On Monday, the No. 2 seed from the west pool will take on the north’s No. 1 seed at 2 p.m. on field one while the east’s No. 2 seed will take on the south’s No. 1 seed.
At 4 p.m., the No. 2 seed from the south will play the No. 1 seed from the east on field one while the No. 2 seed from the north and the No. 1 seed from the west will meet on field two.
On Tuesday, game one and two’s winners will meet at 10 a.m. on field one while winners from games three and four will play on field two.
At 1 p.m., the championship game will be played with the 10 a.m. winners meeting each other.
Saturday and Sunday will see games being played at 10 a.m., noon, 2, 4, 6 and 8 p.m.
East Brewton finished in third place at the district tournament because of its loss to Opp. East Brewton will play in next week’s state tournament because the Bobcats were the district host. Also joining East Brewton and Opp from the district at the state tournament will be district.
