An Atmore man is facing burglary charges in East Brewton this week thanks to the keen eye of a concerned citizen.
Donald Ray Barnhill, 51, of Atmore was arrested in East Brewton on July 6 and is now facing third-degree burglary charges as well as third-degree criminal mischief charges according to officials.
East Brewton Police Chief Kenny Brazile said the arrest is the direct result of a tip from an alert resident in the community.
“We got a call that someone saw a man walking toward the TMC Motorsports store with a hammer,” Brazile said. “Officer (Russell) Pintado responded to the call and did not see anyone at that time. He then parked his car and staked out the location and a short time later, Barnhill made entry into the store and our officer arrested him on the spot.”
TMC Motorsports is located at the intersections of Alabama 41 and U.S. 29 in East Brewton.
Brazile said Barnhill was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center where he was booked on the charges against him.
“We are continuing the investigation into this break-in,” Brazile said. “Although we don’t have everything analyzed at this point, there is a possibility that other charges are pending in connection with this incident.”
Brazile said anyone with information regarding the break-in at TMC Motorsports is asked to contact the East Brewton Police Department at 867-4864.
