Brewton’s Sammy Thomas and Flomaton’s Lavon White were the recent winners of the Fishers of Men (FOM) Alabama South’s final fishing tournament.
Also, with this win, Thomas and White took home the points champions for Alabama South for the second year in a row.
In the recent tournament, FOM Alabama South went to the Delta to make up their February 2013 tournament that had to be cancelled due to flooding conditions.
The Friday night meeting for the group was held at the First Presbyterian Church of Bay Minette. Brother Larry Watts, pastor of First Baptist Church of East Brewton brought the message Friday night.
The group had 15 of the 19 boats fishing in the tournament Saturday. All 19 teams fishing on Saturday made the qualifying to fish at Lake Seminole in November for the first District Championship tournament for Fishers of Men.
As has been the case numerous times in the past the points championship race was tight with only two points difference between first and second when the day started making that race tight and either team could take it if the other team slips up.
At the end of the day the team of Thomas and white took first place with five fish that weighed in at 11.44 pounds. They also took big fish with a fish that weighed in at 4.99 pound. Their catch also secured their repeat of taking the points championship spot for Alabama South. They caught their fish on a little bit of everything including Shakey heads, spinner baits, buzzbaits, crankbaits, swimming jigs, and a texas rig. Their big fish came on a shakey head.
The team of Kenny Smith and James Purvis weighed in five fish that weighed 11.36 pounds to take second place. They caught their fish on buzz baits, crank baits and a few on worms.
The team of James Agerton and Trey Potts weighed in four fish that weighed in at 7.01pounds to take third place.
A total at the end of the day saw six limits brought to the scales with a total of 56 fish weighed in for a total of 77.17 pounds. All fish were released alive to be caught again another day.
Alabama South is hoping to have an open tournament later on in the year. If you are not on their mailing list contact Allen Couch so you can be added.
