Tourney champs: BMS volleyball goes to 7-0 after winning Bayside’s tournament

Brewton Middle School’s Lady Tiger volleyball team ran the tables Saturday at Bayside Academy en route to taking the tournament championship.
The Lady Tigers went 4-0 in tournament play and won all four games by scores of 2-0. The Lady Tigers took down UMS-Wright, Bayside Academy, UMS-Wright again, and St. Paul’s in the tournament championship game.
“I could not be prouder of these girls,” BMS head coach Kim Owens said. “They are so much fun to coach. They practice hard and play even harder. During the tournament they played great defense, set up plays on offense and served very well. The tournament win was a team effort. Each player contributed. I am so proud of them both on and off the court.”
In game one against UMS-Wright, Brewton won 2-0. The Lady Tigers took set one 25-18 and set two 25-15.
In set one, Mallori Floyd had eight service points and three kills while Myra Reiss had five service points and five assists. In set two, Anna Grace White led with eight service points and two kills. Steely Ruzic had three service points and four assists.
In game two against Bayside Academy, Brewton won 2-0 by scores of 25-7 and 25-17.
In set one, Ruzic led with eight service points and six assists while White had four points and one kill. Reiss added four service points and three assist. Gabbi Solomon had three points while Mary Madison Brown had two kills.
In set two, White had six service points and two kills while Reiss chipped in five points and four assist. Ruzic had three service points and three assists while Floyd had three points and three kills. Anna Kate Brittain had four kills in the win.
In their semifinal game against UMS-Wright, Brewton once again came away with a 2-0 win as they claimed 25-8 wins in both set one and set two.
In set one, Solomon led with 10 service points while Floyd had three. Hannah Lisenby had three kills and Ruzic had five assists.
In set two, Anna Kate Brittain had seven service points to lead the way and also had three kills. Floyd had four points, White had four points and Kaleigh Folsom had four digs.
In the championship game, Brewton Middle School defeated St. Paul’s for the tournament title.
The Lady Tigers earned a 25-14 win in set one and a 25-19 win in set two.
In set one, Solomon led with four service points along with White, Floyd and Reiss. Brown had two kills.
In set two, White led with 10 service points, Floyd had three and three kills along with Lisenby.
Reiss added five assists along with Ruzic while Brown had two kills.
The wins improved Brewton Middle School to 7-0 this season. The Lady Tigers will play at home against W.S. Neal Thursday.
