Shop at home: Help ‘heart’ of city

With a focus this month on shopping locally, The Brewton Standard and the City of Brewton are encouraging residents to shop at home Wednesday — and to “Spend $25 on the 25th.“
Local businesses will be offering specials on that day to encourage residents to shop at locally. See specials on page 2 today.
“The heart of a town is its local merchants,” said Connie Baggett, director of program management for the City of Brewton. “Money spent there not only generates sales tax revenue but also gets reinvested in the local economy. And shopping where everybody knows your name helps neighbors keep those ties that bind strong.”
Brewton Reborn is a nine-month campaign encouraging residents to take part in various tasks to improve the community. This month is also focused on local authors, and a writers conference is schedule for 2 p.m. today at the Brewton Public Library.
