Despite losing set one to Andalusia Thursday night at Brewton Middle School, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers rallied to win the next three sets to get a 3-1 win over the Lady Bulldogs. The win improved T.R. Miller to 8-3 overall this year. T.R. Miller’s three losses have come at the hands of the No. 1 and No. 6-ranked teams in class 3A—area games against Bayside Academy and Cottage Hill.
After losing set one 26-24, T.R. Miller took set two 25-18, set three 25-20 and set four 25-17.
Amelia Peach led in set one with seven service points, one ace and two kills. In set two, Abbi Roberts and Moriah Brundidge led with four service points each. Krystal Bell led the set three win with six service points and an ace while Brittany Warren led the fourth set with five service points.
While he was grateful for the win, T.R. Miller Lady Tiger head coach Greg White said there was things his team could have done better.
“Tonight was a grind,” he said. “We really didn’t do anything great, but we really didn’t do anything really bad. We just never got in a rhythm. We did everything in spurts. Overall, the whole night, we just never got anything consistently going. Andalusia did a good job on the net and that kind of caused us some problems with what we were doing on our side of the net. We still found a way to win and I am happy with that, but it was just never real consistency all night from us.”
White said the lack of consistency could have been from the earlier games in the week including Tuesday’s 3-0 area win at W.S. Neal.
“I asked the girls about that,” White said. “This was our third game this week and we are coming off an emotional game win over W.S. Neal Tuesday. That might have been part of it, but we have to handle that. There are going to be some bigger games down the road as well, but it is great to get the win.”
In other games Thursday, Brewton Middle School won 2-0 to improve to 11-0 this season. The Lady Tigers won 25-12 and 25-14.
In JV action, the Lady Tigers won 2-0 to improve to 6-3 this year. T.R. Miller claimed a 25-9 win in set one and a 25-11 win in set two.
No stats or other information was known as of press time from the middle school or JV games Thursday night.
T.R. Miller’s JV and varsity teams will host Cottage Hill Tuesday at Brewton Middle School with games set for 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.
The middle school team will play J.U. Blacksher at 3:30 p.m. at BMS.
