Opp head football coach Jack Whigham was dismissed from his coaching position Tuesday night, according to reports.
Whigham has been the head coach for the Bobcats since 2006.
Opp City Schools Superintendent Michael Smithart said the system appreciates all that Whigham has done for the program.
“At this time, we feel a change is necessary to continue to move our program forward and reach the level of expectations we have for our football team,” Smithart said in a statement.
The search for a new head football coach will begin at some point, and there is no time table to establish a replacement, Smithart said.
Whigham will remain as the school’s athletic director, “as of right now,” Smithart said.
