Brewton employees getting pay raise
City of Brewton employees will see a hike in their paychecks in January after members of the council voted to approve a 2.5 percent pay raise during Monday’s meeting of the group.
Mayor Yank Lovelace said the increase in wages for employees had been planned since the beginning of the fiscal year.
“Our original budget had a 2.5 percent increase in wages for employees,” Lovelace said. “That increase is set to begin Jan. 1.”
Although Councilman Pat Poole voted against the wage increase, the remaining council members approved the pay raise.
Councilman Joe Watson said the raise should be evident on the first paycheck employees receive in January.
