TRM Lady Tigers pick up first two wins in county tournament

Coming into the 2013 Escambia County Tournament, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers were winless at 0-7.
In the tournament, the Lady Tigers went 2-1 and finished as runner-up to the Escambia County Blue Devils to improve their overall record to 2-8.
T.R. Miller opened their tournament play Friday with a 44-34 win over Flomaton for their first win of the season.
On Saturday, T.R. Miller carried their winning ways to two straight wins as they down rival W.S. Neal 27-22. In the tournament championship game Monday, the Lady Tigers lost to Escambia County 47-19.

Friday: TRM Lady Tigers 44, Flomaton 34
The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers stunned Flomaton Friday in the first game of the Escambia County tournament to claim their first win of the season.
Mekiah Williams led the Lady Tigers with 20 points in the win.
“Well Mekiah does a great job,” T.R. Miller Lady Tiger head coach Ron Jackson said. “We all did a great job tonight. We all went out and executed. We worked hard this week for this upcoming tournament and we had some good practices. We worked hard and everyone went out with some enthusiasm. Akilah Brazile was the difference in the ballgame. She got a lot of rebounds for us. I don’t know how many boards she got tonight, but she was all over the boards. We are really playing well. If we can get her to move just a little bit faster, we will be fine. I am just excited.”
The Lady Tigers led Flomaton after one quarter and 16-10 at the half. In the third quarter, T.R. Miller outscored Flomaton 17-14 to increase their lead to 33-24 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, T.R. Miller edged out Flomaton 11-10 to get the win by 10 points.

Saturday: TRM Lady Tigers 27, WSN Lady Eagles 22
The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers got their second win of the season as they got revenge from an earlier loss to W.S. Neal and came away with a 27-22 win.
T.R. Miller led W.S. Neal 8-7 after one quarter of play, but trailed the Lady Eagles 14-12 at the half following a 7-4 scoring advantage for W.S. Neal in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, the Lady Tigers took control of the game with a 9-2 advantage to take a 21-16 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, both teams scored six points each as the Lady Tigers held on for the five-point win.
Williams led T.R. Miller with 11 points in the win. Khadijah Barton led W.S. Neal with 10 points.

Monday: ECHS 47, TRM Lady Tigers 19
Needing one more win to claim the championship, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers were dealt a 28-point loss from Escambia County as they lost 47-19.
With the game tied 6-6 in the first quarter, Escambia County ended the quarter on a 7-0 run to lead 13-6 after one quarter of play.
From there, it was all Atmore as they doubled up T.R. Miller 10-5 in the second quarter to hold a 23-11 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Atmore used a 16-0 run to take a 41-13 lead in the fourth quarter. In the fourth, both teams scored six points each as T.R. Miller took the loss by 28 points.
Williams led T.R. Miller with 15 points.
