TRM varsity boys finish second in county tournament

The T.R. Miller varsity boys basketball team went 2-1 in their 2013 Escambia County tournament games and finished runner-up to the Escambia County Blue Devils. With the 2-1 record in the tournament, the Tigers improved to 4-4 overall this season.
T.R. Miller opened their tournament with a 67-43 win over Flomaton Friday night. On Saturday, T.R. Miller cruised to a 67-35 win over W.S. Neal.
Monday night, T.R. Miller lost to Atmore 71-59.
Friday: TRM varsity boys 67, Flomaton 43
Facing off against the host team Flomaton Hurricanes, T.R. Miller started their tournament with a 67-43 win over the Hurricanes.
T.R. Miller led Flomaton 12-6 after one quarter of play and 33-17 at the half following a 21-11 scoring advantage in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, both teams scored 15 points each as the Tigers led Flomaton 48-32 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, T.R. Miller ended the game on a 19-11 run to get the win by 24 points.
T.R. Miller had 10 players score in the win with Chardian Johnson leading the way with 17 points. Trae Walker added 13 points.
Saturday: TRM varsity boys 67, WSN 35
In Saturday’s tournament games, the T.R. Miller Tigers handed W.S. Neal a 67-35 loss.
The Tigers of T.R. Miller led W.S. Neal 16-13 after one quarter and 22-19 at the half after both teams scored six points each in the second quarter.
The third quarter was the difference in the game as T.R. Miller held a 21-6 scoring advantage in the quarter to grab a 43-25 lead at the half.
In the fourth, T.R. Miller outscored the Eagles of East Brewton 24-10 to get the win by 22 points.
Leading T.R. Miller in the win was Johnson with 21 points. Walker added 12 points and Shawn Tolbert had 11.
For W.S. Neal, TyShawn Davis led with 13 points.
Monday: Escambia County 71, T.R. Miller 59
Trailing by as many as 27 points in the fourth quarter Monday in the tournament title game, T.R. Miller rallied by fell short as they lost to Escambia County by 12 points, 71-59.
Atmore jumped out to an early 12-0 lead on T.R. Miller and led 20-4 after one quarter. From there, T.R. Miller outscored the Blue Devils 17-11 in the second quarter to cut the lead to 31-21 at the half.
In the third quarter, Atmore built a 55-31 lead to hold a 24-point lead heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, Escambia County led T.R. Miller 59-32 with 6:22 left in the game. Leading 67-44 with 3:05 left to play, T.R. Miller used a 13-0 run to cut the lead to 67-57 with 55.9 seconds left in the game. Atmore would end the game on a 4-2 run to get the win by 12.
Leading T.R. Miller in the loss was Johnson with 25 points.
