Atmore police are investigating a shooting on Brown Street Monday night.
Police responded to the scene shortly after 7 p.m. and found the victim had been transported to Atmore Community Hospital by private vehicle with a single gunshot wound to the leg.
Ronta Watson, 32, told police that a man in his late 20s came to his front door requesting assistance with a disabled vehicle. Watson said he didn’t know the man, who asked for jumper cables. Watson allowed the man to use his cell phone to call for help, and after the man returned the phone, he fired a shot at Watson’s leg. A second man then entered the house and demanded money, Watson said.
After Watson gave the men money, he told police, the men escorted him outside, where he escaped and went for help from a passing motorist. Watson’s family was at home during the robbery but were not injured.
Watson described the first male subject as a black male, average build, wearing dark colored clothing. The second male was also a black male, average build, but with lighter skin color also wearing dark colored clothing, police said.
