WSN Lady Eagles get another area win over Bayside Academy, B-team and varsity boys take losses

The W.S. Neal Lady Eagle basketball team continued to soar high through their area competition Tuesday at home as they downed the Bayside Academy Lady Admirals 36-33. It was the lone win for W.S. Neal’s teams Tuesday against Bayside Academy.
The win for the Lady Eagles improved their overall record to 4-12 this season and to 3-1 in area play.
In B-team action Tuesday, W.S. Neal lost to Bayside Academy 32-23 to fall to 1-10 overall.
In varsity action, Bayside Academy handed W.S. Neal a 42-31 loss to drop the Eagles of East Brewton to 4-13 overall and to 1-3 in area play.
W.S. Neal’s teams are scheduled to take on Red Level Friday in Red Level. Game time is set to tip at 4:30 p.m.
W.S. Neal will play at Pensacola Christian Academy on Tuesday before hosting Cottage Hill on Thursday, Jan. 23 in an area contest.
W.S. Neal will travel to Bayside Academy on Friday, Jan. 24 for their final area games of the season.

BA 32, WSN B-team 23
With the W.S. Neal B-team trailing Bayside Academy 26-23 with 3:56 left in the game, a power outage in the gym paused play for around 10 minutes and W.S. Neal’s offense for the remainder of the game.
Trailing by three points when the power went out with 2:45 left in the game, Bayside Academy ended the game on a 6-0 run to defeat W.S. Neal 32-23.
W.S. Neal trailed Bayside Academy 7-6 after one quarter of play and 18-14 at the half after being outscored 11-8 in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, the Admirals edged out W.S. Neal 6-5 to grab a 24-19 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, after Bayside took a 26-19 lead at the 5:29 mark of the game, W.S. Neal went on a 4-0 run to close within three points with just under four minutes left in the game.
From there, it was all Bayside Academy as the Admirals ended the game on the 6-0 run to seal the win by nine points.
Tray-D Jones led the Eagles with nine points and DaQuain Kiser added six. Trey English, Josh McMillan, Matt Brown, and Keaton Yuhasz all finished with two points each in the loss for the Eagles.
W.S. Neal was 1-for-2 from the free throw line in the loss while Bayside Academy shot 11-for-19.

WSN Lady Eagles 36, BA 33
KeKe Floyd scored 20 points and added 13 rebounds for another double-double this year to helped lead the Lady Eagles to a 36-33 win over Bayside Academy.
After scoring only nine points in the first half and trailing 14-9 at the half after a 4-all tie in the first quarter, W.S. Neal outscored Bayside Academy 27-19 to get the three point win.
Down 14-9 at the half, W.S. Neal outscored Bayside 13-8 in the third quarter to tie the game at 22-all heading into the fourth quarter. Down 16-9 in the third quarter, W.S. Neal used an 11-0 run to help them take the lead.
In the fourth, W.S. Neal ended the game on a 14-11 run to get the air win. W.S. Neal started the quarter on a 6-0 run to help propel them to the win.
The area win puts W.S. Neal in the No. 2 spot as of now for the area tournament.
“Down five points at halftime, we went to a man-to-man press and were about to get some steals and that got our offense going,” W.S. Neal head coach Buddy Powell said. “We scored 27 points in the second half and that was the best second half we had this year.”
Along with Floyd’s 20 points, Mariah Davis added five points and Jasmine Crook finished with four points. Taylor Burns added three points while Daisha Flowers and Khadijah Barton both had two points each in the win.
Floyd also had two assists and seven steals in the win while Davis added four rebounds, three assists and five steals. Barton had two rebounds and a steal and Burns added three rebounds and a steal. Crook finished with nine rebounds and two steals while Alyssa English had two rebounds and steals and one assist. Flowers added one assist in the win.
The Lady Eagles shot 6-for-20 from the free throw line in the win while Bayside was 17-for-33.

BA 42, WSN varsity Eagles 31
A 9-0 run in the first quarter for the Bayside Academy Admirals led to a 9-1 lead early and a 42-31, 11-point win over the W.S. Neal varsity Eagles Tuesday night at home in East Brewton.
Leading 9-1 after the first quarter, Bayside build leads of 13-3 and 23-12 in the second quarter before holding a 25-16 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, W.S. Neal got as close as 27-21 with 3:14 left in the quarter but trailed 31-23 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Bayside outscored the Eagles 11-8 to seal the win.
Nine Eagles scored in the loss with Malcolm Hawthorne leading the way with six points. Jacobey Hawthorne added five points while TyShawn Davis, Mike Williams and Troy Lewis all finished with four points each. Treylon Watson, Dalton Shell and D.J. Hodges all chipped in two points each.
The Admirals shot 11-for-16 from the free throw line in the win over the Eagles of East Brewton while W.S. Neal was 10-for-20.
