Shadowed by buildings, the boardwalk running behind businesses on St. Joseph Street was still covered by a thick layer of ice Friday morning.

So Brewton firefighters, using a sledgehammer, shovel and hose, cleared the pathway that customers use to access the businesses on the boardwalk.

Brewton and Escambia County students went back to school Friday morning, and most businesses were back open Thursday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to be around 60 Friday afternoon.

City officials said they don’t expect the snow days to affect sales tax revenue this month.
