A new store has opened in the East Brewton area as owners Charles and Ellen Sumner have opened the East Brewton Variety Shop in the community.

“We opened on October 10 of 2013,” Ellen said. “Our hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and we are opened Tuesday through Saturday and are closed on Sunday and Monday.”

Ellen said there was a need for her store in East Brewton.

“It is a variety shop because we have a variety of everything,” she said. “We have adult and kids clothing and shoes. We have linens, vintage jewelry. Sometimes we have furniture in here. I have sold every piece that I have in here. We have glassware, dishes, kids stuff, baby apparel and kids toys. We don’t have a lot of antiques, but just a lot of vintage jewelry. I also do children’s hair bows. We are just a variety, resale store.”

Upon opening the store, Sumner said she expanded quickly.

“We started off in a small room here, but in November I took over the larger part of the building,” she said. “We quickly expanded.”

The East Brewton Variety Shop currently has three other vendors in the store along with Barbara (Pitts).

“We have a total of four,” Sumner said. “Amy Bruner is one of our vendors as well. As of right now I am not accepting new vendors because I am full. But I will take a list if people want to stop and leave me their name and number and will call them if someone gives up their space.”

Pitts does flowers in the store.

“I do take orders for flowers,” she said. “Right now, I just do mostly silk, but I can do fresh. Right now, I just don’t have a cooler. I also have antique jewelry here, glassware and vintage things. I have record albums, vintage and name brand clothes. We will take requests from people if they are looking for something particular and we will try to find it for them.”

East Brewton Variety Shop is located at 801 Forrest Avenue in East Brewton across from Fred’s.
