Straughn roars to 54-19 over TRM Lady Tigers in sub-regionals

For the second straight year, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers basketball team saw their season end in the sub-regional round of the AHSAA basketball playoffs with a loss to the Straughn Lady Tigers.
Last year, Straughn used a 27-0 run to propel them to a 48-19 win over T.R. Miller and end the Lady Tigers with a record of 4-18.
This year, Straughn opened the game on a 12-0 run and went on to defeat the Lady Tigers by a score of 54-19. The loss for T.R. Miller ended their season with a 5-19 record.
Straughn (26-1) opened the game on a 20-0 run over the span of the first two quarters before Steely Ruzic got a 3-pointer with 3:33 left in the first half to put her team on the board.
Trailing 12-0 after one quarter of play Thursday, Straughn outscored T.R. Miller 16-9 in the second quarter to build a 28-9 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, the Lady Tigers were outscored 11-5 as Straughn pushed their lead to 39-14 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Straughn ended the game on a 15-5 run to get the win by 25 points.
Eighth grader Ruzic led the Lady Tigers with 10 points while Karmaiya Jenkins added three points. Mekiah Williams, Ivory Johnson and Akilah Brazile all added two points each.
T.R. Miller will return all players from the 2013-14 team, as there were no senior Lady Tigers.
