The Brewton Precinct of the Alabama Democratic Conference will meet on the first Tuesday of each month. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at Brewton Sportsman Park. Any additional information may be obtained by contacting Joe Watson at 251-867-4630 or Jackie Hubbard at 251-867-6486.
The W.S. Neal Class of 1974 will have a reunion meeting at Jaliscos on Thursday, March 20 at 6:30 p.m. For more information, please call 867-5574 or 867-2564.
The Brewton Sportsman Club is offering four scholarships to 2014 graduating seniors, two academic and two athletic. Criteria may be obtained from your respective guidance counselors. Information may be obtained by contacting: Homer Hamilton (867-2569) or Adam Powell (867-8662). Or, contact any member of the Brewton Sportsman Club. The deadline is April 13, 2014. No applications can be accepted after this date.
The Escambia County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) will be doing free tax preparation and tax counseling for 60 years old and above with $51,000 annual household income and below on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Brewton Public Library.. Weight Watchers will meet on Tuesdays with weigh-ins from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Meetings are held from 5:30 to 6 p.m. at DHR on Evergreen Avenue. For more information contact Sandra Greenwell at 850-572-4310.

The Lupus Support Group will meet in the classroom at D.W. McMillan Hospital on Belleville Avenue at 11:30 a.m.
March 13
The Escambia County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 11 a.m. at David’s Catfish in Atmore.
Senior Health Advantage will meet in the Education Center at 10 a.m.
March 15-16
The officers and members of the Pilgrim Travelers invite everyone to help celebrate their 41st year anniversary. The event will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 15 and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 16. The celebration will be held at Second Shady Grove Baptist Church in Brewton.
March 18
ARSEA will meet at 10 a.m. at The Friend’s House. Guest speaker will be Betty Queen, the director of RSVP, who will be talking on free help on our tax returns.
March 19
The 4th Biennial Regional Economic Symposium will be held on Wednesday, March 19, at the Country Club of Brewton from11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The theme is Vision for the Alabama Southern Crescent. The symposium will focus on recovery from the recession in Alabama, in general, and specifically in the counties in the southern and rural regions of the state (including, but not limited to, Mobile, Washington, Baldwin, Escambia, Conecuh, and Monroe). The Honorable Yancey Lovelace, Mayor, City of Brewton, will serve as Master of Ceremony and Moderator. Public officials, corporate executives, educators and community leaders are invited to register and attend. There is a $35 registration fee, which includes lunch. The event will be co-hosted by: Alabama State University, Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce Alabama State University, Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, Escambia County Industrial Development Authority, and Reid State Technical College. The Shireys of Columbia, South Carolina, will be in concert at the New Home Baptist Church near Monroeville. Tommy Davis and Don Faulk will open the service at 6:30 p.m. and the Shireys will sing at 7 p.m. There will be no charge for admission but a love offering will be received. New Home Church is located between Repton and Monroeville just north of US Highway 84 East, one mile east of the skating rink. Reverend Kenneth Johnson invites everyone to attend.

The pastor, officers and members of Union Missionary Baptist Church will have their pastor’s 12-year anniversary appreciation at 3 p.m. The pastor Humphrey Shufford of Zion Star AME Zion Church of Atmore and St. Thomas AME Zion Church of Perdido.
March 25
The Escambia County Historical Society will host Ronnie Herrington at its regular monthly meeting. The presentation will be on the History of the Elim Baptist Church and nearby cemeteries located at Roberts, Alabama. Meeting begins at 3 p.m. at the Thomas E. McMillan Museum on the Brewton campus of JDCC. The public is invited to attend.
April 2
The Cancer Support Group will meet in the Education Center at 11:30 a.m.
April 5
The 1st annual Chase Kaylor Memorial Scholarship Benefit will be held Saturday, April 5, at the Country Club of Brewton. The golf tournament will be a four-person scramble with an entry fee for $400 per team. Shotgun start is at 1 p.m. Mulligans and tee busters will be sold prior to tournament. Prizes of $400 will be awarded to the first place team with $300 for second place and $200 for third place. A car will be given away for a hole-in-one on hole No. 17. Beat the pro tickets will be for sale for $5 a ticket and a helicopter ball drop will be held for $5 a ticket. A Glo ball contest will also be held for $5 per ticket and a dance will take place from 7 p.m. to midnight. Entertainment will be by 31 South and will be $10 a ticket.
