Brewton and EB Cal Ripken baseball and softball leagues to open Saturday

Both the East Brewton and Brewton Cal Ripken baseball and softball leagues will have their opening days Saturday, April 5.

East Brewton:
The East Brewton Cal Ripken League will have their 16th annual jamboree Saturday, April 5 at R.T. Johnson Park on Williamson Street in East Brewton.
T-ball, 7- and 8-year-old, softball, 9- and 10-year-old baseball teams, and 11- and 12-year-old baseball teams will take part in the Jamboree with a total of 13 teams playing this spring.
In the T-ball division, three teams will play including the River Bandits, SandGnats and Thunder.
In the 7-and 8-year-old division, three teams will play including the Iron Birds, Bulls, and Hot Rods. Two teams will play in the softball league including the A’s, and Dodgers.
In the 9-and 10 division, teams include the Braves, Marines, Cubs and in the 11-and 12 division, teams include the Royals and Mets
Just for Saturday, admission will be charged. Adults will be charged $5 while students in Kindergarten through 12th grade will be charged $3. Pre-school and under will be free. Wristbands will be purchased at the gate and must be worn to be readmitted throughout the day.
No smoking or tobacco products will be allowed in the park or where pictures will be taken. Also, no pets, skateboards or bikes along with no outside food or coolers will be allowed.
The schedule for Saturday on field one will be the Royals and Mets at 9 a.m., Braves and Marines at 10:45 a.m., Braves and Cubs at 12:45 p.m., and Cubs and Marines at 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. on field one.
On field two, the A’s and Dodgers will play at 9:15 a.m. Following a 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. lunch break, the A’s and Dodgers will play at 12:45 p.m.
On the Babe Ruth field, the Bulls and Iron Birds will play at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Rivers Bandits and Thunder at 10:45 a.m., Bulls and Hot Rods at 11:30 a.m., SandGnats and River Bandits at 12:45 p.m., Hot Rods and Iron Birds at 1:30 p.m., and Sand Gnats and Thunder at 2:45 p.m.
Pictures will also be taken starting at 8 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. in 15-minute intervals.
Starting at 8 a.m. will be the Royals followed by the Mets, A’s, Dodgers, Iron Birds at 9 a.m., Bulls, Marines, Braves, River Bandits at 10 a.m., Thunder, Bulls, Hot Rods, Cubs at 11 a.m., and SandGnats at 11:15 a.m.

Brewton:
Brewton will have their opening day ceremonies Saturday at the Brewton Area YMCA Sports Park.
Girls softball ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m. while boys baseball ceremonies will be held at 1 p.m.
For the baseball ceremonies, Brewton Little League’s 1997 championship team will throw out the first pitch.
That year, Brewton’s 11-12 team won the District 5 Little League tournament championship in Brewton and went on to the state tournament in Muscle Shoals. At state, Brewton went 0-2 falling to Westside 5-3 and Phenix City 11-0.
Team members included: Juan Johnson, John McCracken, Russell Bagwell, Jacob Salter, Quentin Galloway, Trent Davidson, Eli Cook, Ryan Holland, Miller Ball, Kyle Rush, Joseph Turner, James Perry, Matt Overstreet, and Patrick Caffey. Coaches were Phillip Jennings, Jimmy McCracken and Randy Salter.
