WSN baseball gets wins over Hillcrest and Flomaton

Both W.S. Neal’s JV and varsity baseball teams earned wins Tuesday on the road in Flomaton. The JV Eagles defeated Flomaton 6-3 while the varsity won 9-7.
With the wins, the JV Eagles moved to 6-2 this season while the varsity Eagles moved to 14-3.
On Monday, W.S. Neal’s varsity hosted the Hillcrest Jaguars and defeated the Jaguars 17-12.
WSN JV 6, Flomaton 3
W.S. Neal doubled up Flomaton 6-3 Tuesday in Flomaton to get their sixth win of the season.
W.S. Neal led Flomaton 4-3 after one inning and held the Hurricanes scoreless the remainder of the game while added one run of their own in the third and fourth innings to get the win by three.
Brandon Moye and Matt Hutchins pitched in the win with Moye being the pitcher of record. Moye and Hutchins went four innings and allowed three hits, three runs, two earned, walked three and struck out five.
At the plate for the JV Eagles, Sam Frazier went 1-for-1 with one RBI while Colton Morris and Rob Jones were both 1-for-2 with one RBI each.
Nick Laster went 1-for-2, Dalton Shell went 1-for-1 and Connor Huskey went 1-for-2 with a double and one RBI.
WSN 9, Flomaton 7
After surrendering six runs to Flomaton in the fourth inning to blow an early lead, W.S. Neal scored five runs in the sixth to help aid them in a 9-7 win over the Hurricanes.
W.S. Neal led Flomaton 2-0 after one inning and 3-0 after three innings. In the bottom of the fourth, Flomaton scored six runs to grab a 6-3 lead over the Eagles of East Brewton.
Down three runs, W.S. Neal held Flomaton to one more run in the seventh inning while added five of their own in the sixth and one in the seventh to get the win.
Derrick Barton and Malcolm Hawthorne had a single each in the win while Tyler Joyner added two singles and two RBIs.
Lane Chavers had a single, Jared Cooper had a double and a single and three RBIs, while Dakota Graves had two singles and one RBI.
No pitching stats were known as of press time for W.S. Neal.
WSN 17, Hillcrest 12
An eight-run first and sixth inning helped W.S. Neal take down Hillcrest Monday in East Brewton as the Eagles claimed a 17-12 win.
W.S. Neal led Hillcrest 8-0 after one inning and 9-0 after two before allowing eight unanswered runs to the Jaguars to see their lead get cut to 9-0 after the top of the sixth inning.
W.S. Neal added eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 17-8 lead heading into the seventh inning.
In the seventh, Hillcrest scored four runs to cut the lead to 17-12, but failed to get any closer.
At the plate for W.S. Neal, Hawthorne had two singles and two RBIs while Barton had a single and a triple and two RBIs. Joyner chipped in a single and three RBIs while Mike Williams had a double and Cooper had three singles and one RBI.
Taylor Elliott added a single in the win while Houston Gray had a single and two RBIs.
Graves had a double and two singles and two RBIs while Robin Swift had one RBI and Brandon Carmichael had a single.
Cooper, Colton Morris, Patrick Glass, Williams and Jacobey Hawthorne all pitched in the win.
