TRM baseball clinches spot in playoffs with area win over CH Thursday

The T.R. Miller Tiger baseball team officially clinched a spot in the class 3A state baseball playoffs Thursday at home as they downed the Cottage Hill Christian Academy Warriors 9-2. The win improved T.R. Miller to 4-1 in area play. With a win Friday over Cottage Hill, T.R. Miller would be area champions.
In the game Thursday, T.R. Miller used a six-run third inning to turn a 3-0 lead into a 9-0 lead. The Tigers led the Warriors 2-0 after one inning and 3-0 after the second inning. Cottage Hill’s two runs came in the fifth inning.
Tiger pitcher Kyle Davis earned the win on the mound for T.R. Miller. Davis went seven innings and allowed two hits, two runs, walked one and hit two while striking out 10. Davis had a perfect game through four innings as he sat down 12 straight batters.
At the plate for T.R. Miller, Jones Manning had two singles and one RBI while Drew Williamson had two singles. Davis added one single while Hunter Brittain had one RBI and Tripp Floyd had two singles and three RBIs.
Zac Griffin and Caden Lodge had one single each in the win.
The playoff berth for T.R. Miller is their first since 2012. That year T.R. Miller took on Opp and won game one 5-2 before losing game two 6-5 and game three 11-4 to drop the three-game series.
