Alan Ash of Atmore finished among the top 150 finishers in the world, during Monday’s running of the 118th Boston Marathon.

Ash ended the race with a time of 2 hours, 33 minutes, 54 seconds, finishing in 148th place overall. There were approximately 36,000 runners in the marathon.

Ash, 22, ran cross country at Vanderbilt and is currently a teacher at Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery. Although he has only been running marathons for less than a year, he finished with the top Boston Marathon time for any runner from Alabama.

Atmore’s Mark Rice also participated in the marathon, finishing with a time of 5:16:36.

Ash’s dad, Allen Sr., taught school at Brewton Middle School and also has coached track and cross country at T.R. Miller.
