South Carolina and Arkansas grab wins Monday during Brewton BR games

The Brewton Babe Ruth South Carolina Gamecocks took sole possession of first place Monday night as they picked up a 7-6 win over Arizona State to move to 3-1 this season.
Arizona State fell to 1-3 overall with the loss.
In the second game Monday night, Arkansas downed LSU 5-1.
Arkansas moved to 2-2 overall while LSU fell to 2-2.
Games were scheduled to be played again Tuesday and Friday in Brewton at 6 and 8 p.m.
South Carolina 7, Arizona State 6
Joshua Winton improved to 2-0 on the mound this year for the South Carolina Gamecocks as he pitched a complete game win in his team’s 7-6 win over Arizona State Monday in Brewton.
Winton gave up three hits, no earned runs, struck out six and walked four in the win. South Carolina made seven errors in the win.
South Carolina went up 4-1 early with a three-run second inning and went up 7-1 in the top of the fifth inning. ASU would make things close in the bottom of the fifth as they plated five runs to cut the lead to 7-6.
With tying run on third base and two outs, Arizona State kid had a ball hit to right field that would have tied it, but Steven McCall threw him out at first to end the game and give USC the one-run win.
For South Carolina, Winton was 2-for-3 with a double and scored two runs. Derrick Barton had a two-run single. Caleb Winton was 1-for-2 with an RBI, Aaron Bosarge was
2-for-3 with a run scored, and AJ Walker and Steven McCall had singles.
For Arizona State, Russell Smith had an RBI single, Tyler Pierce and Daniel Blair each had doubles. Micah Flores pitched the whole game for Arizona State and gave up nine hits, no walks, struck out two, and allowed seven earned runs.
Arkansas 5, LSU 1
In Monday’s second game, the Arkansas Razorbacks claimed a 5-1 win over LSU.
Matt Hutchins pitched the complete game win for Arkansas as he went seven innings and allowed five hits, one run, none earned, walked two and struck out nine.
At the plate, Drew Williamson had two hits and Hutchins had one with one RBI. Hunter Revel added a double and three RBIs while Austin Rowell had one hit.
For LSU, Stokes Jennings and Brandon Moye pitched in the loss with Moye being the pitcher of record.
Jennings and Moye combined to go six innings and allowed five hits, five runs, one earned, walked three and struck out 10.
At the plate for LSU in the loss, Conner Huskey, Moye, O’Neil White, Colton Young and Hayden Winchester all had hits. Huskey had the lone RBI.
