Brewton BR: LSU and Arkansas get Monday wins

On Memorial Day Monday, Brewton’s Babe Ruth teams took to the field for some holiday baseball and the LSU Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks came away with wins.
In the first game Monday, Arkansas picked up their third straight win as they downed league-leading South Carolina 8-2. The loss for South Carolina was the team’s second straight loss.
In the second game, LSU picked up their second straight win with a 13-8 win over Arizona State’s Sun Devils. The loss for ASU was their third straight.
After Monday’s games, South Carolina still leads the league with a 6-3-1, but LSU is close behind in second place with a 6-4 record.
Arkansas moved to 5-5 overall and is one game out of second place while ASU fell to 2-7-1 and rounds out the four-team league.
Games were to continue Tuesday in East Brewton and will play again Thursday in Brewton. Games are now being played at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. each night.
Arkansas 8, South Carolina 2
In a game that saw only three combined hits—with South Carolina out-hitting Arkansas 2-1—the Razorbacks pulled the upset over the Gamecocks and earned an 8-2 lead.
Arkansas benefited from eight walks in the win and six South Carolina errors.
Arkansas led South Carolina 2-1 after one inning and 3-2 after two innings before using a five-run third inning to help them get the six-run win.
Jo Jo Booker earned the pitching win on the mound for Arkansas as he went the complete game four innings and allowed two hits, two runs, one earned, walked four and struck out seven.
Joshua Winton and Jacobey Hawthorne took the pitching loss for South Carolina as they went 3 1/3 innings and allowed one hits, eight runs, one earned, walked eight, struck out six and hit one batter.
Winton and Caleb Winton had one hit each in the loss with Hawthorne having one RBI. Booker had the lone hit for Arkansas. Booker added two RBIs while Matt Hutchins had one RBI.
LSU 13, ASU 8
LSU scored eight runs in the fourth inning to aid them in a 13-8 win over Arizona State Monday.
Arizona State led LSU 2-1 after one inning but was outscored 4-1 in the second inning to fall behind 5-3. After taking a 6-5 lead in the third inning, LSU outscored Arizona State 8-2 the remainder of the game to get the win by five.
Brandon Moye and Stokes Jennings pitched in the win with Moye being the pitcher of record. The duo went five innings and allowed seven hits, eight runs, four earned, walked three and struck out five while hitting two batters.
Micah Flores, Jordan Williams and Matt Smith pitched in the loss for ASU with Smith being the pitcher of record.
The trio combined to go five innings, allowed seven hits, 13 runs, seven earned, walked eight and struck out five.
For LSU, Connor Huskey went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Moye had one RBI. Jennings was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and Tyler Baxter went 1-for-2. Joseph Blackburn was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.
For ASU, Flores was 1-for-3 and Williams was 1-for-2. Russell Smith went 2-for-2 with one RBI and Hunter Brittain was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a triple. Andrew Etheridge was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
