TRM softball wins summer game at Northview Thursday

T.R. Miller’s Lady Tiger softball team traveled to Northview Thursday night to play a summer softball game and came away with a 7-6 win. Lady Tiger Steely Ruzic stole home in the seventh inning for the winning run.
T.R. Miller and Northview were tied 1-1 after one inning before Northview took a 2-1 lead in the second inning.
After the Lady Tigers tied things up in the third inning, Northview plated two runs in the bottom of the inning to grab a 4-2 lead.
T.R. Miller responded in the fourth with three runs to grab a 5-4 lead, but saw Northview tie things in the bottom of the inning.
After a scoreless fifth inning for both teams, Northview grabbed a 6-5 lead in the sixth inning. From there, T.R. Miller held Northview scoreless while getting two runs in the top of the seventh to get the win by one run.
Myra Reiss was the winning pitcher as she went two innings and allowed no hits, struck out one, walked two and allowed one run.
Taylor Austin got the start in the circle and went three innings and allowed four hits, struck out two, walked five and allowed four runs.
Ruzic went two innings and allowed two hits, struck out none, walked none and allowed one run.
Austin went the first three inning, Ruzic went the fourth and fifth innings while Reiss went the sixth and the seventh inning to get the win. T.R. Miller made no errors on defense.
At the plate, Ruzic went 1-for-1 with two walks and scored three runs. Madison Douglas went 1-for-1 with one run scored, Reiss went 2-for-4 with one RBI and Morgan Longmire went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
T.R. Miller Lady Tiger head coach Greg White said his team played well.
“The girls played a very good game defensively,” he said. “We need to improve our hitting a little, but that’s why we are working this summer. As far as effort and enthusiasm, I couldn’t ask for much more. They have been working very hard this summer and hopefully it will pay off next spring. We are going to get back to work and get ready for our tournament that we are hosting next week on June 26.”
