Brewton Babe Ruth 15s eliminated from state tourney Monday

Brewton’s 15-year-old Babe Ruth all-stars went 1-2 in their state tournament games at Daphne High School.
Brewton opened with 13-8 come-from-behind win Saturday over Opp, but lost to Sylacauga 6-2 Sunday to fall to 1-1. Needing two wins on Monday to clinch a spot in the state championship game, Brewton suffered a close loss to Matthews Park by a score of 7-6 to be eliminated from tourney play.
Other teams in the tournament were Childersburg, Wetumpka, Westside, Tallassee and Monroe County.
Making the 15-year-old team was: Jo Jo Booker, Lane Clark, Caleb Winton, Jordan Williams, Drew Williamson, Stoke Jennings, Derrick Barton, Russell Smith, Matt Hutchins, O’Neil White, Hunter Brittain, Brandon Moye, Connor Huskey, and Joshua Winton.
David Jennings was the head coach along with Howard Joyner and Eli Cook serving as assistants.

Brewton 13, Opp 8
Down 8-4 after the fifth inning and 8-7 after the sixth inning, Brewton rallied with six runs in the seventh inning to down Opp 13-8 in their first game Saturday.
Brewton led Opp 1-0 after one inning, but fell behind 6-3 after two innings.
Brewton cut the lead to 6-4 in the third, but fell behind 8-4 in the fifth.
Hunter Brittain and Russell Smith pitched for Brewton and combined to go seven innings and allowed five hits, eight runs, one earned, walked four and struck out eight.
At the plate for Brewton in the win, Jo Jo Booker went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double and had three RBIs. Drew Williamson added a triple and one RBI as he went 2-for-3. Brandon Moye went 1-for-3 and Russell Smith went 1-for-5 with two RBIs.
Derrick Barton added a double and two RBIs after going 2-for-3.

Sylacauga 6, Brewton 2
In their second game of the tournament Sunday, Brewton suffered a 6-2 loss to Sylacauga.
Sylacauga used a four-run third inning to help aid in the win. Sylacauga held Brewton to two runs in the fifth while adding one more run of their own in the fifth inning and sixth inning.
Joshua Winton, Caleb Winton, Lane Clark and Stokes Jennings all pitched for Brewton in the loss. The quartet combined to go seven innings and allowed 11 hits, six runs, four earned, walked two, and struck out seven.
At the plate, Hunter Brittain went 1-for-3 with a triple while Brandon Moye was 3-for-3 and Stokes Jennings went 2-for-3.

Matthews Park 7, Brewton 6
Leading 4-2 after three innings, Brewton gave up a five-run fourth inning to Matthews Park and could not rally as they lost by one and were eliminated Monday with a 7-6 loss.
After a scoreless first inning, Brewton led 3-2 after two innings and 4-2 after three innings. Following Matthews Park’s five runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-4 lead, Brewton added two in the sixth inning, but failed to score in the seventh to take the loss by one run.
Jo Jo Booker, Brandon Moye, and Stokes Jennings all pitched in the loss and combined to go seven innings and allowed 10 hits, seven runs, four earned, walked six and struck out seven.
At the plate for Brewton in the loss, Hunter Brittain went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs while Drew Williamson was 1-for-3 with a triple and one RBI. Joshua Winton finished 1-for-2 with a double and one RBI while Lane Clark was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Russell Smith went 2-for-3 with a double.
