Two local men are the latest to be arrested in the crackdown on drugs in East Brewton.
Chief Kenny Brazile said Tuesday that a Saturday night traffic stop helped to take pre-packaged marijuana off town streets.
“Officers did a routine traffic stop, and when they walked up to the vehicle, they smelled the odor of marijuana,” Brazile said. “After a short investigation and a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers recovered quite a bit of marijuana that was pre-packaged and ready to sell.”
Arrested were 46-year-old Randy S. Spears of Brewton on charges of possession of marijuana I with the intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia and 24-year-old Christopher Samuel of East Brewton for possession of marijuana II.
This is the third week in a row that a traffic stop has netted at least two drug arrests for the department, Brazile said.
“I hope it sends a clear message – one, to the public that officers are out working and patrolling our streets,” he said. “And two, I hope it says to those who use or deal drugs, we’re watching and we will catch you. We are investigating any and all tips about suspected drug activity and suspicious activity of any nature in East Brewton.”
