The T.R. Miller cross country team held their first ever TRM Friday Night Lights 5K run/walk around the T.R. Miller football and practice fields.
The winner was Derrick Blackman from Jay with a time of 18:31.
Former T.R. Miller Lady Tiger cross county and track star Karisa Nelson was the second overall finisher.
Sponsors were Wendy Folmar, Owen Milligan, Pepsi, and Heath Jackson.
“We had a tremendous night tonight,” T.R. Miller cross country head coach Rob Atkinson said of the race. “I was really impressed with how everyone came out and supported our cross country program. I could not have dreamed it would be this great. I am really impressed with how things went. The kids went above and beyond the call of duty to get people signed up.
“The parents did a really good job of getting the word out to the community. It just goes to show you that we can get everybody together. I am just blown away.
“I don’t know exactly how many we had tonight but I am sure it was around 200-250.”
The cross country team will begin their season on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 8 a.m. at the Pensacola Equestrian Center as they run in a meet hosted by the Washington Wildcats.
TRM will host home meets on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. at BMS and on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 8:30 a.m.
