Online ticket sales started Tuesday for Wash Hole Jam, an Americana music celebration set for Sept. 20 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Brewton’s O’Bannon Park.
The outdoor concert will highlight the musical heritage that brought voices like William Lee Golden and Hank Locklin into the musical landscape of the South – a tradition of performing that still exists today in Brewton.
“There is so much here to celebrate,” said Chris Fields, owner of the outfitter shop that offers trips on area waterways like Burnt Corn Creek, Murder Creek and the Sepulga River. “We grow great artists here, great musicians and the beauty of our parks and rivers is dazzling. This concert will feature great artists with local ties who care about Brewton as much as we do. It’s all about recognizing who we are and sharing that treasure with the world.”
Mayor Yank Lovelace said the city is proud to host any event that gives visitors a glimpse at all the positive things that make Brewton the unique and wonderful place that it is.
“Whatever we can do to show off our city and celebrate our heritage, we will be glad to do,“ he said.
Outfitter Low Country Adventures and a city-backed committee of concert enthusiasts teamed up to organize an Americana concert featuring Grayson Capps, Will Kimbrough, Sugarcane Jane and Willie Sugarcapps in an evening of roots music sure to please any audience.
Capps, a popular performer on the local folk/rock scene for years, will be among a collection of artists that bring multiple Grammy nominations, songwriting credits and powerhouse roots music performances. Read more and listen to stellar music at their website: http://www.williesugarcapps.com/.
The city’s Brewton Leadership Class 18 will host a shrimp boil at the start of the show with proceeds going to benefit the replacement of playground equipment at Dogwood Hills. Concert proceeds will go to community improvement projects like the John L. Fisher Center and park upgrades.
Advanced tickets are $10 each.
