TRM B-team football wins opener Monday against Excel

Hunter Brittain and Michael Campbell both rushed for over 100 yards Monday night for T.R. Miller as the Tigers cruised to a 41-14 win over the Excel Panthers in their first B-team game of the season. The win starts the season with a 1-0 record for T.R. Miller.
Brittain had 12 carries and 107 yards for T.R. Miller while Campbell had eight carries and 120 yards while scoring two touchdowns. Campbell scored on runs of 10 and 8 yards.
T.R. Miller led 6-0 after one quarter of play and 21-0 at the half. Excel outscored T.R. Miller 14-7 in the third quarter to cut the lead to 28-14, but the Tigers held a 13-0 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to get the win by 27 points.
Kristian Smith had T.R. Miller’s first score on a 6-yard run while Caleb Winton hooked up with Smith and Jo Jo Booker for T.R. Miller’s next two scores. Winton and Smith hooked up for a 10-yard scoring touchdown while Winton and Booker connected on a 35-yard score at the halftime buzzer.
Campbell added T.R. Miller’s next two touchdowns while Demarquis McMillan added the final score on a 7-yard run.
Brittain was 3-for-5 on PATs for T.R. Miller.
The Tigers racked up 364 total yards of offense with 266 coming on the ground and 98 in the air. T.R. Miller had 15 first downs in the win. Excel had nine first downs while racking up 213 total yards. The Panthers tallied 161 on the ground and 52 in the air.
Winton was 4-for-5 passing with one interception, two touchdowns and 88 yards. Stokes Jennings was 1-for-1 with 10 yards passing.
Joshua Winton had two catches for 43 yards while Smith had one for 10 yards and one touchdown. Booker had one catch for 35 yards and a score while McMillan had one catch for 10 yards.
Along with Brittain and Campbell’s production on the ground, Smith had six carries for 32 yards and one touchdown while McMillan had three carries for 13 yards and one touchdown. Caleb Winton and Jennings both had one carry each for minus-3 yards.
The Tigers will be back in action Tuesday, Sept. 2 when they travel to Hillcrest-Evergreen. T.R. Miller will host W.S. Neal on Monday, Sept. 8.
All games start at 6:30 p.m.
